My Home
By Xiao Shuai
Leshan, my hometown, is
located in the southwest area of Sichuan province. Leshan is a cultural city
with a history of more than 3000 years and a modern city as well. Because of
the Rapid City development most of the old buildings have been torn down but
fortunately the Giant Buddha remains intact. Nowadays, it attracts millions of
visitors from home and abroad.
My family lives in
Leshan. There are three people in my family. They are my father, my mother, and
I. My father is tall and thin. He is a handsome man. He has big eyes. His hair
is straight. He likes to watch TV and movies and read books. My mother works in
an office. She cooks very well. She likes to read books, too. She is short and
thin. I like my family because each it makes me feel like home.
I left my home for a
better education since the last year of elementary school. Therefore, I
honestly don’t have much colorful stories to tell. Since the time I went to
another city, I had almost lost the chance to have a good connection to my home.
But, foods are always the memorial thing that I would never forget!
Sichuan Cuisine,
known more commonly in the West as Szechuan Cuisine, is one of the most famous
Chinese cuisines in the world, especially in my hometown. Characterized by its
spicy and pungent flavors, Sichuan cuisine, with a myriad of tastes, emphasizes
the use of chili. Pepper and prickly ash are always in accompaniment, producing
the typical exciting tastes. Garlic, ginger and fermented soybean are also used
in the cooking process. Wild vegetables and meats such as are often chosen as
ingredients, while frying, frying without oil, pickling and braising are used
as basic cooking techniques. It can be said that one who doesn't experience
Sichuan food has never reached China.
Luckily, both of my parents are professional cooks. Its a typical style
of Sichuan cuisine, I like it very much!
You are so lucky to have professional chefs for parents - makes me hungry! :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks like Leshan is a beautiful city. It's too bad about losing the old buildings, but even the new buildings will be old someday!
ReplyDeleteThere's no doubt that good food creates good memories...I just wish there were cooks in my family! Just reading your descriptions is enough to get me thinking about dinner :o)
I now have a better idea of what your life was like before you came here. Thank you. The food in this area sounds fabulous. Maybe you can make something like this for one of our events?! Teter
ReplyDeleteChili peppers, garlic, and tofu are some of my favorite things to eat! I'm glad the Giant Buddha is still standing.
